Gender and Youths Mainstreaming

Most climate change policies, strategies, and programs are known to be gender blind, often developed without considering the gender and special groups situations. As a result, options for girls and young women to become agents of change in response to climate change are limited.

Amshaamsha Foundation contributes to the body of knowledge needed to promote Gender and Youth Mainstreaming into climate change interventions. Engaging women as “agents of change” in climate solutions not only help stabilize the climate but also yields multiple other benefits, including gender equality, youth, and women’s empowerment.

Activities

Engagement with gender stakeholders including gender CSOs and NGOs to provide capacity building related to climate change and gender, and design a training program for women to learn about climate change mitigation and renewable energy technologies.

Design a renewable energy technology catalog (i.e., solar water pumps, solar water heaters, solar milking machines, solar cooling systems, fish, vegetable, and fruit dryers, etc.) and distribution mechanism that takes into account women’s access to financial resources.

Develop a capacity-building program, including an agri-energy incubation program to support women entrepreneurs to develop better and more efficient agricultural production practices, including water management for irrigation and other women-centric PUE technologies.
